Description

NOS integrated multimedia newsroom

NOS News operates from a fully integrated multimedia news floor. NOS provide news to the audience on every possible outlet; radio, television, internet, digital canals, live streams, mobile platforms, teletext and social networks. While also focusing on the specific needs for radio or television, for news bulletins or website, an essential part of the workforce has the skills to alternate between the different news areas.

This year NOS News is making the next transition, from multi- to crossmedia. More than ever are they are trying to link television to the website, radio to social networks, and vice versa. Interconnectivity is the challenge. How do you generate knowledge from your audience, in order to come up with news stories? When to start or end with crowd sourcing? Where do Twitter and Facebook fit in? And don’t underestimate: How do you tell a story on these new platforms? One thing’s for sure: Crossmedia journalism is here and now.

NOS News would like to introduce its work methods to EBU colleagues. Not only that, they would also like to discuss, brainstorm, argue the pros and cons, but most of all, find new ways to write the up-to-date blueprint for crossmedia journalism.

Participants should already work in an integrated news floor or have concrete plans to do so.

Moderator

Tim Overdiek, multimedia journalist and Deputy Editor, NOS News

Tim Overdiek believes that journalists without a blog don’t have a future. That’s quite a statement, coming from a respectable journalist as he is. He currently occupies the position of Deputy Editor in Chief of the Dutch national public broadcasting news outlet.

His first claim to fame was his much applauded reporting about 9/11 from Washington. After the prestigious job of U.S. correspondent, Overdiek ran an one-man multimedia circus  from London. He reported for radio, television, and.., a blog.

Now he continues his blogging quest as the Deputy Editor in Chief at NOS News.
