Handbook of Technical Standards for Television Programme Production

Background

The United Kingdom's OFCOM (formerly, the Independent Television Commission) issues licences that allow commercial television companies to broadcast in and from the UK. It also monitors compliance with standards of technical quality, and it produces publications on a wide variety of regulatory and technical matters.

One such publication was the Handbook of Technical Standards for Television Programme Production, Part A (Issue 2.0 - Dec. 1996). This document is now out of print and is no longer maintained.

As the subject matter of the Handbook is of continuing relevance to technicians in the television community, it was thought useful to make it available for download from a public website. The Handbook was made available to the EBU by kind permission of the Director of Engineering of the ITC.

Contents

This handbook contains performance figures for the main elements of the video and audio equipment and the signal paths used in television programme production, and incorporates recommended test procedures for checking compliance with these performance criteria.
