The Eurovision network carried its first live, surround sound radio concert in Dolby E digital multichannel audio on Saturday 16 October 2004.

The concert was given by Danish multicultural band 'Oriental Mood' who performed in the RBB radio studios in Berlin (Germany). The concert marked the opening of Prix Europa, one of Europe's most prestigious media events, which rewards the finest television, radio, and new media produced in the last year in Europe.

The tests of live network transmission using Dolby E multichannel audio transmission followed tests last year from the Prix Europa opening concert using an alternative multichannel audio system, “DTS”.

The concert was available for EBU Members to evaluate and broadcast, and contributed to the growing knowledge base of options for providing surround sound, which may be used for future digital broadcasting for both radio and television in Europe.
