Telenovelas

During the first semester of 2004, the number of telenovelas titles broadcast in Europe recorded an increase of 9.4% in comparison with the same period in 2003. This increase is encouraging since the genre had gone down in the ratings of the 2003 Top 10 best performing programs in 72 countries*.

This type of series, which aims to dethrone the American soap opera on the worldwide charts, still exports well throughout Latin America, Europe or Asia, where the genre reaches different targets.

The chart below illustrates the results of a survey conducted in Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain (source: EURODATA TV Relevant Partners).
