Mikael Jungner, LL.Lic. 39, has been appointed new Director General of YLE for a five-year term, starting 1 May 2005. He will already be entering YLE’s service on 1 January 2005. 

The Administrative Council appointed Mr Wessberg to a senior role linked to his international activities. Mr Wessberg was reelected to a third two-year term ending in August 2006 by the EBU General Assembly last July.

Mikael Jungner is currently Director responsible for Information Society Relations at Microsoft Oy. He has also previously served as special political assistant to the Finnish Prime Minister and special assistant to the Minister of Justice and Minister of Administration. 

YLE's Administrative Council decided on the appointment unanimously at its meeting on Tuesday.
