The International News
Safety Institute, a non-governmental organization dedicated to
the safety of journalists and media staff everywhere, held its
second annual general meeting in Vilamoura, Portugal, on 17
November, on the eve of the third NewsXchange conference.
“INSI has come of age,” said
Chris Cramer, president of CNN International Networks and honorary
president of INSI, in his opening speech, “our
name is out there. We are well known. We stand for safety and media
integrity,” he added. However, Cramer
stressed, “this has been arguably the most
terrible year for our profession, after I sat here and told you
last year it had been the most terrible
year.”
