Cabinet approves reform of RTVE, DTT technical plan

The Spanish cabinet has approved the draft public radio and television law and the technical plan for digital terrestrial television (DTT).

The draft law, approved on 29 July 2005, lays down the future make-up and financing of RadioTelevisión Española (RTVE).

Spain's national public broadcaster will become a public limited company with state capital, controlled by parliament and the broadcast media council.

RTVE will be financed through a nine-year framework mandate and a three-yearly programme contract between the broadcaster and the state will specify the public service objectives.

The cabinet also approved the digital terrestrial television technical plan which allocates a minimum of nine channels to public broadcaster TVE, four to Antena 3 TV, Telecinco and Sogecable, and two each to the current digital providers, Veo TV and Net TV.
