Conference in Liverpool

The UK and the European Commission are jointly holding a major conference on broadcasting in Liverpool from Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 September this year.

The event is linked to the UK’s Presidency of the European Union in the second half of this year. Its purpose is to discuss the Commission’s proposed revision of the Television Without Frontiers (TVWF) Directive. This piece of EU legislation, dating from the 1980s and revised in the 1990s, is fundamental to the regulation of TV broadcasting at EU level.

The Commission’s revision of the Directive is prompted in part by the need to take account of advances in technology, such as digitization and switchover, digital radio, HDTV, broadband, and interactive and mobile services.
