Henry Dunant, Red on the Cross

Henry Dunant, Red on the Cross was presented Friday 10 March to the press in Geneva at the opening of the 4th International Film Festival on Human Rights. This TV film that portrays Henry Dunant’s quest which resulted in the founding of the Red Cross, is a major international coproduction*, coordinated by the EBU.

At the press conference the TSR announced that it will exclusively broadcast on Tuesday 14 March on TSR1 at 20:45 this 100’ TV film, which was produced in high definition to guarantee it a long life in a broadcasting environment whose technologies are evolving rapidly.

Henry Dunant, Red on the Cross is by Dominique Othenin-Girard, a Swiss director who also had a hand in writing the script, and was shot last summer in Switzerland (Geneva), Algeria and Austria.

A romantic idealist, humanitarian and visionary, Henry Dunant fought a seemingly impossible battle to convince the States to found a relief society that would care for all wounded on the battlefield regardless of their nationality. The unshakeable determination of this pioneer, the first Nobel Peace Prize winner, was the driving force behind the founding of the Red Cross.

As a free adaptation of Henry Dunant’s life story, Henry Dunant, Red on the Cross is a TV epic, letting viewers experience the passion and determination of the protagonist. In the title role, Thomas Jouannet reveals impressive charisma, supported by a first-rate international cast, including Emilie Dequenne, Noémie Kocher, Michel Galabru, Jean-François Balmer, Vincent Winterhalter, Samuel Labarthe, Vania Vilers, Henri Garcin, Fritz Karl, Fritz von Friedl, and with Tom Novembre in the role of Napoléon III.
