In the IBC Daily News, George Jarret recently wrote that the EBU had once again produced a stunning 'must see' format comparison presentation from its long tradition of observing and depicting the evolution of HDTV scanning technologies.
He was referring to the Technical department's three-screen demo, showing exactly the same clips presented at 720, 1080i and 1080p at various bitrates applicable to the consumer market. This demo illustrates the latest stage of a history that began in the 1930's with the development of interlace scanning.

David Wood commented that: "The EBU Technical Department is now one of the world's leading authorities on High Definition Television. Together with the Communications service it has mounted a demonstration of alternative HDTV formats - along with a range of other demonstrations.
Over 40 thousand broadcasters visit the IBC Convention in September in Amsterdam each year, and it seems most of them want to visit the EBU stand there. An additional highpoint this year, was newly elected EBU president, Fritz Pleitgen's keynote address!"
