Romanian Television

On September 12, Romanian Television celebrated two major events: 50 years of existence and the launching of the autumn grid. The events were celebrated at TVR headquarters in Bucharest with over 2,000 guests including politicians, mass media representatives, local stars and TVR employees.

Tudor Giurgiu, President Director General of TVR, addressed the distinguished audience, and spoke about the 50 year old organization, which is now a modern European public broadcaster.
The President of Romania, Traian Basescu, and the Prime-minister, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, also attended the party. Bjorn Erichsen, Director of the Television Ddepartment, represented the EBU.

At the end of October, TVR will be hosting the EBU Entertainment plenary meeting in Bucharest. Over 60 participants from the EBU member countries are expected to attend the meeting.

EBU Legal Seminar

Romanian Television (TVR) and Romanian Radio (ROR) jointly hosted the EBU Legal Seminar on 7 and 8 September.

The seminar was attended by 30 lawyers from Central and Eastern Europe and was chaired by Werner Rumphorst, Director of the EBU Legal Department.

Relevant issues were discussed including the importance of the licence fee for public broadcasters and copyright issues in the context of European practice and regulation.

Apart from professional issues discussed during the seminar, TVR and ROR organized a press conference in honour of Werner Rumphorst, who will be retiring soon.
