Romanian Television (TVR) recently participated as a partner, together with the French-German channel ARTE, in the first edition of the Aristoteles Workshop, dedicated to young professionals interested in documentaries. The workshop was hosted in Sibiu, Romania between 13 August and 16 September.
TVR became a partner in this project, as part of its main objective is to support documentaries through financing and co-financing, as well as through training future professionals in the field.
17 candidates from Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania were selected to participate in the workshop. The trainees were divided into four teams, each working to produce at least one documentary to enter the competition for the prize.

The workshop started on 14 August, with a period of theoretical classes followed by practical classes, in the field. Famous professionals were present at the workshop: Jeniffer Fox, American documentary director and teacher at prestigious documentary schools in the U.S.A., Denmark and Switzerland; André Labarthe, professor from France, who held a master class; Marten Rabarts, from the prestigious Binger Film Lab in Amsterdam; Dominique Gros; Jean Rozat, Director General of ARTE.
The first prize, consisting of 5,000 Euros, was won by the Romanian team made up of Ligia Smarandache, graphic designer from TVR Cluj, Adina Pintilie (director) and Sorin Gociu (cameraman), who made a documentary about an asylum in Romania.
TVR and ARTE own the broadcast rights of all the five productions created during this workshop.
