The European Parliament will adopt its opinion on the proposed new Audiovisual Media Services Directive on Wednesday 13 December.
The EBU encourages the Parliament to support the extension of the scope of the Television Without Frontiers Directive, so that the Directive will serve current and future developments in audiovisual media services.
This approach would take account of today's reality, where audiovisual services are delivered in many different ways. Audience expect services anytime, anyplace and anywhere. Many EBU members already offer services on different platforms, which meet the demands of European audiences.
Jean Réveillon, EBU Secretary-General, commenting on the upcoming vote said, "Mrs Hieronymi (MEP), has already succeeded in finding a consensus within the Culture Committee. I hope that the Parliament, following the lead of this Committee, will be able to further reinforce this Directive, thereby facilitating the future development of Europe's audiovisual sector".
