Modern copyright for digital media: Brussels conference 16-17 March

The Modern copyright for digital media conference was held in Brussels at the European Parliament on the 16 and 17 March.  The event was a great success, with over 300 participants over the two days.

On Tuesday evening participants gathered for a live TV show, showcasing public service media content on all platforms and addressing some challenges raised by the copyright framework.

The live show was hosted by two presenters (Jussi-Pekka Rantanen from Finnish national broadcaster YLE and Marlène de Wouters from VRT) and included live interviews, video clips and a live music act with Tom Dice, this year's Belgian Eurovision Song Contest entrant. EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre and EBU President Jean-Paul Philippot (pictured below) were among the interviewees.

In a separate session on the 17 March the EBU put forward its ideas on copyright modernization and then opened the discussions to the floor for an interactive panel debate with Members of the European Parliament, of EU institutions and other stakeholders. The EBU legal analysis and proposals on copyright modernisation (EBU proposals) were welcomed by all present and proved to be a very useful basis for the discussion.
