64th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly in Baku

The 64th EBU General Assembly  took place in Baku on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 July 2010 at the kind invitation of its member in Azerbaijan, ICTIMAI. A meeting of the Executive Board was held on Wednesday 30 June, as well as other preparatory meetings. 

The focus of this year's General Assembly was quality journalism and the future of media. Two high-level special sessions were organized with prominent media professionals as speakers and participants. The first was entitled Independent Journalism in the age of social media: Under Threat or Alive and Well?, moderated by Erick Fichtelius, Director General of UR (Sweden) and Christine Maier from SSR/SRG idée suisse (Switzerland). This session aimed to give an overview of media today in Azerbaijan and the region and the level of independence of the media. It looked at the effect of the Internet and social media on press freedom. 

The second session on Friday: How can we succeed in a world driven by search engines?, was moderated by Amy Selwyn, Media Consultant (USA) and focused on the future, the challenges facing public media and the secrets of success. It aimed to show some of the models that are working and should inspire Members and encourage them to succeed.
