The Tour de France

The centenary Tour has generated new records in terms of television audiences. 

In France, during the first two weeks of the race, France 2 recorded an average of 4,200,000 viewers, 600,000 more than in 2002, with an audience share of 47.2%. 

During the same period, France 3, working on a complementary basis with France 2, attracted an average of 2,700,000 viewers with an audience share of 29.25% – an increase of 5 points over the previous year.

The highest rating stages were those in the Alps: 6,600,000 viewers for France 2 on July 13 (59% market share) and 4,300,000 for France 3 on July 14 – its top audience figure for the whole Tour. 

During its live broadcasts, Eurosport attracted an average of 2,000,000 viewers, doubling last year's figure. 

In the rest of Europe, the 4.5 hour broadcast of the Bagnéres de Bigorre - Luz Ardiden stage on
21 July, saw ZDF attract over 3,500,000 viewers. NOS recorded close to 1 million viewers 
(60% audience share), VRT 800,000 (75.8% market share) and Denmark's DR1 714,000 viewers (49.5% market share).

These figures were topped on July 27, for the Ville d'Avray-Paris stage: ZDF attracted 5,540,000 viewers, RAI3 1,500,000, NOS 1,400,000 (59.4% market share), VRT 609,000 (64.8% market share) and Norway's TV2 235,000 viewers (52.8% market share).
