2008 Olympic Emblem

On Sunday, at the Temple of Heaven in Qinian, the official emblem of the 2008 Olympic Games was unveiled by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China and Hein Verbruggen, Chairman of the Coordination Commission at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

The emblem, which was chosen from just under 2,000 entries, resembles a red Chinese seal with the figure of a dancer drawn in traditional Chinese calligraphy. Below the seal are the words "Beijing 2008".

"The emblem is young, dynamic – bringing together the historical and cultural heritage, as well as the future of China,'' said Jacques Rogge, President of International Olympic Committee (IOC).
