The EBU Folk and Traditional Music Project
Group is launching a new project entitled "Europe –
the common home" (Ethnic Minorities and Music).
"Europe – the common home" will be held in
conjunction with the Special Day on European Cultures on 12 October
2003, at the initiative of Prix Europa, the Council of Europe and
the EBU Radio Department.
Public service radios are encouraged to
take part in this project which will present the rich and varied
music in a common European home.
The 20th century was a time marked by
upheaval, war and changes in national frontiers. Fleeing their
native countries, many people settled in other countries. These
minorities have enriched their host countries by adding
originality, colour and strength, particularly in the field of
music.
EBU Members who would like to participate
in this project are invited to send three pieces of music performed
by national minorities living in their community. The contributions
must be submitted by Monday 2 June to:
