EBU's Swiss Member hosts the 2003 FIS Alpine World Skiing Championships in St Moritz

SRG SSR idée
suisse, Switzerland's national broadcaster, is host
broadcaster for the 2003 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships being
held from February 1 to 16 in the resort of St Moritz,
situated in the upper Engadin Valley in the Swiss Alps. "SRG SSR idée suisse...has a long
tradition of being the host broadcaster for world championships,
particularly in winter sports," said Armin Walpen,
director general of SRG SSR idée suisse. In St Moritz, the Swiss
broadcasting corporation has put every effort into organizing
world-class operations and working conditions to facilitate the
coverage of the event by the international rightsholders on site,
including more than 17 fellow EBU Members offering radio and
television coverage.  | | Arthur Haechler, head of the 2003 St Moritz Host Broadcaster
Project and chairman of the EBU Sports Group, said that planning
and coordination for this event had been going on for three
years. "Now it is time for action, transmission
time," he added.
While some 170 staff members from SRG SSR
idée suisse are ensuring the production and worldwide distribution
of radio and TV signals for the races, the host broadcaster is also
providing a full range of other services including production
material, commentator booths and studios, an impressive
International Broadcast Center (IBC) and a TV compound. All the
competitions are taking place on the Corviglia Mountain where 30
special camera positions have been set up from the start to the
finish of the runs to broadcast over 450 hours of spectacular
images of the races to audiences around the world.  | |
