International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary Film-making and Reporting

The CMCA, RAI and the city of Siracusa (Italy) is organizing the 8th international competition for Mediterranean documentary film-making and reporting. The award ceremony will take place on 6 April.

The competition is open to all public and private broadcasting organizations and public, private and associative production organizations, and to all authors, and director/journalists who are involved through their programmes or productions in the dissemination of information and cultural exchanges between the countries of the Mediterranean basin.

Three new prize categories have been introduced:

The “Mediterranean Issues” Prize (worth €5,000) will be awarded to the best report addressing Mediterranean issues.

The CMCA “Quality and Creativity” Prize (worth €5,000) will be awarded for the best Mediterranean documentary film.

The “Memories of the Mediterranean” Prize (worth €5,000) will be awarded to the piece of work that most successfully brings the past into the context of the present day.

A special RAI Mediterranean Prize will be awarded to one of the finalists and the prize itself will be the screening of the film on the Italian channel Rai 3.

Special France 3 Prize will be awarded to one of the finalists, and the prize itself will be the screening of the film on France 3. 

To take part in this 8th International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary Film-making and Reporting, candidates should present the following to the CMCA before 4 March 2003 at the latest:

  • A Pal/Secam VHS video cassette in one of the Prize’s three official languages (French, English and Italian).
  • Although not compulsory, receiving a version that is dubbed or subtitled in one of the three languages will facilitate the work of the selection committee.
  • A production report stating the country, year, subject, direction, editing, music, duration and production.
  • A biofilmography of the creator  (max. 200 words).
  • A synopsis of the work presented (max. 200 words).

Candidates may submit more than one piece of work. Each piece of work may be entered in one category only. Submitted work must have been produced within the 24 months preceding selection.
