Changing Radio for a Changing Culture

The 9th Radio Assembly will be held in
Frankfurt on 3 and 4 April 2003. On Thursday 3 April, Helmut Reitze,
intendant of Hessischer Rundfunk (ARD/HR), will deliver the
welcoming address to the Assembly chaired by Nicholas Kenyon,
BBC. Three subjects will be covered: | • | news coverage of the terrorist
attacks, Sergei Kurokhtin, RDO; | | • | the conclusions of a study
conducted by the EBU's Strategic Information Service,
presented by Stanislaw Jedrzejewski (PR), Graham Dixon (BBC) and
Penelope Rudd (EBU); | | • | important radio events in
2003: | | | - - - | RNE Rencontre (8 and 9 May);
DAB content workshop (28 May);
Pan-European day of culture on radio (12 October). |
Following on, the professional debates will
address the main theme of "Culture on Radio
Revisited: challenges, audiences, new demands": | • | The debate "Changing
Radio for a Changing Culture", chaired by Nicholas Kenyon,
will be opened by Heinz-Dieter Sommer (ARD/HR) and Michael Tracey,
director of the Center for Mass Media Research at the University of
Colorado (USA); | | • | Ann Sandelin (YLE), will
lead the discussion on "Changing Cultural Content –
the Challenges". The main speakers will be Roger Wright
(BBC), Svetlana Dimitrova (BNR), Solveig Mattsson (YLE) and Jan
Westerhof (NPB). |
On Friday 4 April the first session will be
chaired by Vlado Senica (RTVSLO): | • | "Reflecting the Culture of
New Audiences", with the participation of François
Desnoyers (Radio France), Angiolino Lonardi (RAI), Gérard Tschoppp
(SSR) and Lukas Hurnik (CR). |
Bernd Peter Arnod (ARD/HR) will officiate
as chairman for the last debate: • | "Communication Culture on All
Platforms". Speakers include Walter Couvreur (VRT), Leif
Lønsmann (DR), Josep M. Marti (SER), Marie Wennerten and Karolina
Gerdin (SR). |
