The Group Europe approved the EBU's reply to the
Green Paper on the services of general interest, including any
action that can contribute to greater legal certainty.
The EBU's reply will allow it to:
| - support the Commission's idea of launching a debate on the
scope of possible Community action on services of general interest,
including any action that can contribute to greater legal
certainty;
|
| - stress the sector specificity of public service broadcasting,
on the basis of the Amsterdam Protocol and the limited competences
of the Union in this sector compared to other services of general
(economic) interest; and
|
| - propose the explicit inclusion of media pluralism in the
horizontal clause of the culture Article III-181 of the draft
Constitutional Treaty (ex-Article 151 of the EC
Treaty).
