Opening ceremony, Saturday 14 October at 20:00

Every year Prix Europa invites the finest European television, radio and Internet productions, as well as their makers and managers, to Berlin for a week of festival and competition.

This year, Prix Europa is taking place from 14 to 21 October 2006, with its opening concert on Saturday 14 October (20:00 to 21:00 CET) given by a Portuguese World Music group Gaiteros de Lisboa. 

This event will be broadcast from the ARD transponder of Astra satellite (Astra 1H 19°East, DVB-S Radio Service, ARD Bouquet , WDR channel, Funkhaus Europa, Channel 1 = Stereo Channel 2 = 5.1 Dolby Digital AC-3). Twenty EBU broadcasting organizations will be relaying the stereo feed available on Euroradio and will be rebroadcasting it on their terrestrial FM/DAB networks. The event is hosted by ARD/Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) RadioMultiKulti. 

About Gaiteiros de Lisboa

Gaiteiros de Lisboa is a folk/traditional/world band of multi-talented musicians who got together around a project based on the constant search for new sounds. This has led the group to create original instruments. Basing its work on the combination of sounds of different wind instruments and vocal polyphony, the band plays both songs and tunes from Portuguese tradition or from other cultures, as well as their own compositions. Their experimental attitude sets up a bridge between past and present, by blending traditional styles with contemporary sensibilities.
