59th Prix Italia in Verona

(uniquement en anglais)

The 59th Prix Italia, the Italian television film and broadcasting award is being held in Verona from 23 to 29 September. The Prix Italia is the oldest and most prestigious international radio, television and web competition. It awards prizes for quality productions in the fields of drama, documentaries, the performing arts (television) and music (radio).

The award which was established in 1948 by RAI (then Radio Italiana) in Capri was initially for radio only, but  was extended to cover television in 1957.

The purposes of Prix Italia are:

  • to work for the improvement in the quality of radio and television programmes and to encourage member organizations to broadcast the entries;
  • to foster cooperation between persons engaged in creative radio and television broadcasting and
  • to stimulate the study and discussion of the cultural and creative problems raised by these two forms of expression.

During this year's Prix Italia a number of workshops have been organized on the following topics:

Wednesday 26 September
- How to measure television quality

Thursday 27 September
- Profiles: Women and media
- Vision XXI. The future of the web: radio and video

Friday 28 September
- Television of the Future

Saturday 29 September
- Media and Peace-Building

Hundreds of high-ranking representatives from the worlds broadcasters will be attending including directors, producers, writers, as well as a considerable number of journalists. EBU participants in the workshops include EBU Director Jean Réveillon and EBU Radio Director Raina Konstantinova.
