Hans Laroes (NOS) was elected as president of the EBU's News Assembly, at the first meeting of that Assembly in Berlin, last week.

The EBU's Television News Assembly brings together broadcast news managers from the EBU's Membership. It is for them a common forum to discuss the challenges facing the broadcast news industry and to exchange information and experience.

The EBU's Members have for instance had a strong influence on the introduction of safety courses for news staff working in hazardous conditions, and the EBU itself has set up an intensive training program, with considerable assistance from NOS.

Hans Laroes was elected by acclamation reflecting trust the EBU's Members have in his professional judgment. Together with a small news committee Hans Laroes will now for the next two years define the issues that the News Assembly will want to discuss.
