EBU President Fritz Pleitgen held talks in Tehran on Thursday with Genichi Hashimoto, who is President of both NHK, Japan's public service broadcaster, and the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

Meeting on the margins of the ABU's General Assembly (28 October to 4 November), the two men agreed on the importance of extending cooperation between the two sister unions, particularly on the creation and exchange of quality programming.

President Pleitgen will address the Assembly on Sunday from a European perspective on "Staying relevant as broadcasters in the age of convergence".

The Assembly is being hosted in the Iranian capital by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), a full member of the ABU and associate member of the EBU. Earlier in the week Radio Director Raina Konstantinova and Technical Director Lieven Vermaele took part in sectoral meetings associated with the Assembly.
