Metadata workshop

(uniquement en anglais)

Metadata in AV/multimedia productions and archiving:
a CHORUS* Workshop with support from EBU and IRT

Numerous EU and national research projects are working on the automatic or semi-automatic generation of descriptive and functional metadata derived from analysing audio-visual content. The owners of AV archives and production facilities are eagerly awaiting methods which would help them to better exploit their assets.

Hand in hand with the digitization of analogue archives and the archiving of digital AV material, metadata should be generated on as high a semantic level as possible, preferably automatically. All users of metadata rely on a certain metadata model. All AV/multimedia search engines - already developed or under development -  would, to some extent, have to be compatible or comply with the metadata models.

The purpose of this workshop is to draw attention to the specific problem of metadata models in the context of (semi)-automatic multimedia search.

*The main objective of the project CHORUS is to assist the Commission in providing the tools to integrate the various projects that are running within Call 6 under objective 2.6.3 (Search engines for Audio-Visual Content) into a vision consistent with the initiatives started on similar topics, either at national levels or within the industry, (ref. www.ist-chorus.org).
