Isn’t Europe interesting enough?

(uniquement en anglais)

How can we make Europe more interesting for the citizens of the European Union? This was the question asked at a panel-discussion organized by MTV Hungarian Television and the EBU at the European Parliament on 28 November. It was attended by MEPS, Members of the Hungarian Parliament, as well as media representatives.

The event focused on ways of improving the portrayal of European institutions and European integration on public service television.

"‘MTV plays an active role in the life of our Union",  said Mr Jean Réveillon, Director General of the EBU, "this confirms their intention to play an important role in the construction of Europe".

Mr Zoltan Rudi, President of MTV spoke about the tasks of public service broadcasters during the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. He said that two components are absolutely necessary to produce programmes that tell the story of Europe in an attractive way. These are creativity and money. Broadcasters usually concentrate on news and information-programmes to convey European messages, but other genres should also be considered, for instance, fiction, cultural, children’s and youth programmes.
