Anna Lindh journalist award 2009

The Jury of the Anna Lindh Mediterranean Journalist Award 2009 convened in Rome on 14 September to select the winners of the 2009 award edition. The meeting was presided by André Azoulay, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation and was chaired by Amin Maalouf, renowned Lebanese writer.

This year’s official winners are: 

Alberto Arce for ‘A series of reports from Gaza’ (El Mundo Spain; Spanish journalist)

Lisa Goldman for ‘What Israelis wanted to know about the war in Gaza’ (Columbia Journalist Review, Israeli journalist)

Ethar El-Katatney for ‘Identity Crisis’ (Egypt Today; Egyptian journalist)

Chine Labbé for ‘Exercer et produire le droit dans les territoires palestiniens: un combat continu’ (France-Culture; French journalist)

Martin Traxi for 'Balkan Express' (ORF Austrian Radio and TV, Austrian journalist) 

Ennio Remondino for ‘I Popoli Dell’ Arca’ (RAI; Italian journalist)

ELAPH (‘Special mention for new media’) – UK-based online Arab media

The Award is the leading region-wide prize for journalists reporting across cultures and on issues of cultural diversity, with winning journalistic works chosen by an international jury of leading intellectuals and media experts. 

This year’s Jury, chaired by Amin Malouf was composed of: 

  • David Gardner (Financial Times)
  • Juan Luis Cebrian (Prisa Group)
  • Hala Hashish (Egyptian Satellite TV)
  • Alessandra Paradisi (COPEAM) 
  • Jean Réveillon (EBU Director General)
  • Lucian Sarb (Euronews)
  • Rana Sabbagh (Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism)  

For the 2009 edition, the award categories were: 

  • Award for Printed Articles; 
  • Award for Online Blogs; 
  • Award for Radio Productions; 
  • Award for Television Productions; 
  • Special Recognition for Conflict Reporting.   

The ‘Special Recognition for Conflict Reporting’ was included for the 2009 edition in the aftermath of Gaza and the events which impacted on the Mediterranean region at the start of the year, in recognition of the challenge journalists face in reporting on conflict.

The winners of the Award will be officially presented at a prestigious ceremony on the 5th of November in Monaco.
