“Engage and share with audience”: Facebook at the EBU

The “Meeting with... Facebook” at the EBU on 15 January filled the room with EBU Member Heads of Internet, New Media,  Multimedia and Digital Strategy.

The morning session was opened by Ingrid Deltenre, Director General of EBU in which she provided some inspiring quotes from the “Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as Usual” .  Nicoletta Iacobacci, Head of Interactive TV & Cross Media, EBU and organiser of meeting provided the introduction and presented the evolution of social media.  

Facebook Growth Manager representatives presented applications and strategies to attract new audiences using  Facebook tools and platform emphasizing the concept of “Giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected”.

The number of Facebook users is growing at a phenomenal rate with now 350,000 million users worldwide, 53% of which are daily active users. Facebook presented the main elements of an effective Facebook page: “authenticity, exclusivity and relevance”.  

The afternoon session gave EBU Members the opportunity to present their respective experiences using Facebook and learn from each other. Members presentations were from : ARD, TSR, RTVE, RTBF, France Television, VTR and ZDF.  

The meeting was closed by a video conference with Henri Moissinac, Head of Facebook Mobile who gave some insights on his mobile strategy.

The Interactive TV & Cross Media group  will soon deliver a document with the summary of the event and the  10 golden rules and wrong doings when establishing a social media strategy with Facebook.

The report will be available to Members in a few days and a follow-up workshop for Members is also being organised which will be announced soon.
