EBU Technical Assembly 2010
Turin in Italy is famous for great ice-cream and coffee, but it is also the home of the broadcasting research laboratory of Italy's national broadcaster, the RAI. This meant that a cornucopia of new technology was on show for delegates at the 2010 EBU Technical Assembly, held at the beginning of June 2010 in Turin, at the RAI's invitation.
The demonstrations included what may be the next stages of television beyond HDTV - Ultra High definition television (four times the picture detail of Blu Ray), and 3D TV.
They also included ways of adding 'user generated pictures' to the display screens of digital radios, and cute ways to control your TV set at home by waving your hand in from of the screen - maybe ending forever the 'where's the remote control' wars many of us have at home?
There was lots of serious and difficult issues for the Technical Assembly to discuss, including Members reactions to the new structure of the Technical Committees activities, which have been very favourable.
