New categories announced as nominations open for 2016 Rose d’Or Awards
03 March 2016The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2016 Rose d’Or Awards. These prestigious international awards, now in their 55th year, honour the best in radio, television and online entertainment.
This year’s ceremony will be held at Axica in Berlin on Tuesday 13 September.
From 4 March until 31 May programme makers from across the world are invited to submit entries in 11 different TV and Radio categories including Sitcom, Game Show and Reality.
Two new categories have been added for the 55th Rose d’Or Awards – TV Drama Series and Radio Audio Stories – which reflect the increased diversity of entertainment programming.
“Our brand new TV category recognises the amount of high quality drama currently being produced by public service media and major players such as Netflix, Amazon and HBO. The new radio category reflects the popularity of podcasts and celebrates the power of radio as a medium for storytelling,” said EBU Head of Television Jeroen Depraetere.
Another change for 2016 is that programme makers nominated in each category will now be invited to present their programmes to their peers in Berlin and have a say in who takes home the coveted Rose d’Or trophies.
“There are more reasons than ever before to submit entries this year,” said EBU Media Director Jean Philip De Tender.
“For the first time nominees will take part in the judging process along with a selected jury. We want to take the Rose d’Or back to its roots as a meeting place for producers and creatives to exchange ideas and discuss their work.”
Broadcasters and production companies are welcome to submit as many programmes as they like for the Rose d’Or Awards. A discount is available for multiple entries.
As well as the 11 trophies up for grabs, a Lifetime Achievement Award will also be given out at the end of the ceremony to recognise one person’s exceptional contribution to entertainment programming. Last year’s recipient was British actor and presenter Stephen Fry.
