New Radio Day 2016 to focus on “live experience”

Re-imagining the live listening experience is the theme of the EBU’s annual New Radio Day which this year will be hosted in Madrid by RTVE on 13 and 14 October.

New Radio Day sees those responsible for innovation and new initiatives come together to discuss perspectives on the future of the medium and to share their recent projects.  It is a unique opportunity for mutual learning which can inspire and guide the whole EBU radio community.

In recent years, radio conferences have often focused on the new worlds of apps, downloads, podcasting, on-demand listening, personalization and more. However, throughout Europe, listeners are still consuming a vast amount of live radio.

For this reason, New Radio Day 2016 will concentrate on asking how to re-imagine our core product, the live radio experience. How can we make the experience as rich as possible for the listeners?  What alternative programme types or forms will grow in the live context? What is the role of visuals, of associated text and data, or search? How do we provide robust digital reception on the move?

“There is an awful lot packed into this conference.” said RTE's JP Coakley, Chair of the EBU’s New Radio Group.

“We pride ourselves on an open, engaging event that we trust Members will take something from, but above all enjoy. We are delighted to be the guests of RTVE in the wonderful city of Madrid. If the future of radio is your concern, then our conference is for you.”
