Eurovision Academy holds Constructive Journalism workshop in Kyiv

The Eurovision Academy successfully organised a Constructive Journalism workshop for participants from Ukrainian Member NTU on 20-21 October.

During the two days, participants had the opportunity to learn about the idea behind the concept of constructive journalism, discuss the impact of news media on their audiences, and put the concept in practice. Participants had the time and space to think about the role and responsibility of journalists and discuss how the concept can be implemented in the Ukrainian context.

Constructive Journalism is an approach which aims to empower audiences with a more accurate and balanced picture of society, while using open-minded journalism to find answers and possible solutions regarding the issues facing it. As such, constructive journalism can play an active role as “bridgers” - bringing people together for a common dialogue, instead of acting as the polarizers and aggravating the disagreements. This contributes to a better quality of public debate, by changing the conversation from problems to critical examination of solutions.

In the words of one of the participants: “Constructive Journalism is a very good alternative to the dominance of negativity in the media. It is a journalism that unites, not divides”.
