The seminar on local/regional radio is taking place on 28 and 29 November 2002 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg at the kind invitation of Radio France/France Bleu.

The theme will be: local radio serving the community.

"The seminar will be a unique opportunity to bring together more than 60 professionnals originating from 25 EBU Member organizations to discuss topics and share practices, and will surely highlight the growing importance of this radio activity to the entire public radio community at a time when 'globalization' is on everybody's lips." Opening speech of the seminar by Michel Barnier, Member of the European Commission, in charge of Regional Policy and Institutional Reform.

Between local and global: Radio with a local but nevertheless international vocation.
Moderator: Mr Nigel Kay, BBC (UK) - Introduction to the seminar and morning session.

 

News: Balancing local and national/international news.

   

The BBC experience: Mr Dave Dunford, BBC General News Service and Mr Andrew Glover, BBC Radio Cleveland (UK).

The Swedish Experience: Mr Gunnar Svensson, SR/Kristianstad and Mr Malte Lind, SR/Västmanland (Sweden).

 

The question of music programming: full or partly local programme? What kind of music to schedule? The responsibility to promote local talent.
