According
to Reporters Without Borders , 25 journalists lost their
lives in 2002 while exercising their profession. Over 500
journalists have died over the past 10 years.
Today, at least 119 journalists are
in prison for trying to inform.
Reporters Without Borders has been
working for the past 20 years to defend the right to inform
and be informed. It is launching a spectacular public campaign
in which star news anchors of French television will be
"assassinated" (Christine Ockrent, Guillaume Durand
and Emmanuel Chain).
Reporters Without Borders defends
imprisoned journalists and the freedom of the press around
the world, according to article 19 of the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights. It has nine national sections (Germany,
Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy,
Sweden and Switzerland), is represented in Abidjan, Bangkok,
Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Montreal, Moscow, Nairobi, New York,
Tokyo and Washington, and has over 100 correspondents in
the world.
