2004 Eurovision Song Contest

The event will be held in Istanbul with a brand new format: two televised contests in one week – a Qualifying Round and a Grand Final, both broadcast live.

The Qualifying Round will be broadcast on Wednesday, 12 May 2004. More than 20 countries are expected to compete for the 10 remaining places in the Grand Final, to be aired on Saturday, 15 May.

14 countries already have a secured place in the Grand Final: the winner and the highest scoring countries from the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest, along with the four largest countries in the competition (i.e. France, Germany, Spain, and the UK).

The exact number of countries wishing to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 will be known after the deadline for entries on 1 October 2003.

TRT Television has still to decide on the venue for the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest.

Sertab Erener, representing Turkey with the song Every way that I can, won the 48th Contest. The event was transmitted live by 42 broadcasters over the Eurovision network reaching over 100 million viewers across Europe and beyond in territories as far afield as Australia.
