Armenian public TV relaunches with impressive new season

The Public Television Company of Armenia (PTA) has launched its first season under new management with a festive concert, 20 new TV programme formats, updated equipment and new facilities.

The innovations follow the appointment early this year of Ruben Jaghinyan as chairman of PTA’s supervisory council (and of the Public Radio Company of Armenia [PRA] company) and of Margarita Grigoryan as PTA’s Executive Director.

From now on the news bulletins of PTA will be broadcast from newly renovated premises with up-to-date HD technical equipment.

Having joined the EBU in 2005, PTA says it aspires to become a TV channel “with European standards and qualities”.

On a two-day visit to Yerevan in July, Vice-President Claudio Cappon offered the EBU’s expertise, training and strategic consultancy through the Partnership Programme to strengthen PTA and PRA, which chairman Jaghinyan is thinking of merging.

Mr Cappon stressed the core values of public service media, adopted unanimously by all EBU Members a year ago, and the importance placed by the European Union on EU candidate countries having strong, independent and sustainable public broadcasters.
