Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Zurab Alasania Director General of the National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU), which is a Member of the EBU.
Mr Alasania succeeds Alexander Panteleymonov, who served as Director General ad interim until he was forced to resign during a violent assault by members of Ukraine’s far-right nationalist party Svoboda, on March 18.
A civil engineering graduate from Kharkiv Institute of Construction & Architecture, Mr Alasania moved into television journalism. He worked as a correspondent for the current affairs programme “Day by Day”, and hosted a political talk show called “Field of Warfare”.
In 2000 Mr Alasania cofounded the Objective Media Group, where he served as director, and six years later launched an agency, called Media Port, and a weekly newspaper, the MediaPost.
He was appointed as Director of the Kharkiv Regional State Television and Radio Company in 2005, where he stayed for five years.
In 2013 he cofounded Ukrainian internet TV station Hromadske.tv, where he also worked as a journalist.
The EBU wishes Mr Alasania the very best in his new role and looks forward to working with him.
