Like most organizations throughout Europe, the EBU is preparing for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation, which from 25 May 2018 will apply directly to entities based in the EU or dealing with the personal data of EU residents.
The Regulation will apply the same principles across the EU, and the EBU can therefore build on its internal expertise and experience to assist its members in their own rollout of compliance programmes.
In addition to the 2 workshops organized for Members last year, the EBU Legal Team is offering Members the possibility to benefit from focused workshops on their own premises.
Working with an external consultancy specialized in GDPR implementation for the media sector, Legal and Policy Director Richard Burnley and Senior Legal Counsel Anne-Catherine Berg most recently travelled to Lisbon and Bratislava for workshops with RTP and RTVS.
The aim is to assist Members in establishing a roadmap towards compliance, to provide template documents and recommend a local provider for specific technical questions. Further visits to Members are lined up for the coming months.
Members will also have the opportunity to exchange best practices in June/early July when a third EBU-level workshop will be organized for Members to share their experience and learn from each other.
