The EBU is organizing a practical workshop to help Members get ready for May 2018, when the General Data Protection Regulation will be directly applicable in EU Member States. The workshop will offer Members valuable insights, practical information and guidance which they may take home to their organisations to facilitate compliance with the GDPR.
The GDPR sets out the EU’s legal framework for the lawful processing of personal data and is thus the bedrock of any data-driven service provided by public service media (PSM). Its implementation provides PSM a unique opportunity to demonstrate that they not only comply with the law but that they also treat citizens’ personal data with respect, in line with PSM values.
The workshop will present the GDPR’s key notions and principles, it will provide insights on how to manage end-user rights, how to build a data governance structure and what to bear in mind when drafting contracts with third party data processors.
Offering a hands-on approach, this workshop responds directly to Members’ priorities in implementing the GDPR’s many legal requirements. It will offer an interdisciplinary perspective with interventions from lawyers, consultants and engineers alongside Members’ examples of best practices.
