Interdisciplinary Workshop on PSM Access to Data

This interdisciplinary workshop will focus on ‘use cases’ with regard to data exchanges between third party platforms and public service media (PSM). This workshop is an interdisciplinary approach to improving the understanding of how recent policy initiatives can ensure effective PSM access to data.

The most notable example is the European Commission’s proposal for a Digital Markets Act (DMA), which would require ‘gatekeeper’ (i.e. very large) platforms (e.g. Facebook, Google, Amazon) to share data with business users.

After an introduction to the topic and DMA, the workshop will cover the following topics:

  1. Data categories relevant for PSM organisations
  2. Access to data: The business perspective
  3. Access to data: Competition and data protection issues
  4. Reporting and technical interfacing
  5. Access to functionalities: competitive advantages

Preparations for the workshop: to be able to assess the benefits and drawbacks of the DMA proposal, we are reaching out to those joining the workshop (EBU Members only) to form an opinion that will enable us to structure our discussions.

We would be grateful if you could reply to the questionnaire available below by 17 May eob and sent it to tullemans@ebu.ch and bania@ebu.ch. This will help us prepare for the workshop. Individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be distributed.
