Radio Assembly

The Radio Assembly brings together radio and audio executives from across the EBU membership. It is an annual gathering where leading experts tackle the challenges public service media face in the audio market. The event also  looks at the latest developments in audio content, format and distribution, and initiatives taken to make the radio more sustainable, diverse, and inclusive.

The 31st edition of the Radio Assembly will be held in Paris on 3-4 April 2025, hosted by Radio France.

The EBU Radio Assembly is an essential annual meetup for senior leaders in the world of public service radio. To ensure the widest representation of the radio community within the EBU membership, senior radio managers from all Members are warmly invited to attend.

The 2025 edition will bring perspectives on an array of topics including the ethical use of synthetic voice and AI for producing and broadcasting audio content, the transformation of public service radio broadcasters as a consequence of financial or other pressures, gaining new audiences for live broadcasting, and approaches to negotiating music rights. There will be a special focus on the Connected Car Playbook and advocacy for radio distribution across devices.

The first speakers for the Radio Assembly have been announced.

Radio and the music industry

With the EBU set to publish a new report on the music landscape in Europe along with a survey on music rights for rock and pop channels, the time is right to discuss radio and the music industry. With the digital media revolution, the availability of music has become increasingly challenging, as have the relationships between PSM, record companies, music management, and collective rights management societies. The situation can also vary dramatically from one territory to another. A panel of seasoned experts will clarify the overall situation and highlight the need for stronger advocacy for the positive impact that public service radio has on the wider music sector. The absence of a one-size-fits-all solution makes this advocacy even more crucial. We will have the unique chance to hear the position of BBC and the international landscape.

Public radio’s future in Switzerland

Against the backdrop of a national referendum that could slash the licence fee and challenging discussions on the future size and shape of public broadcasting, SRG SSR has also been adjusting to the switch-off of FM broadcasting for its channels, where commercial radio will remain for a further two years. At the Radio Assembly, we will host a conversation with Pascal Crittin, Director General of RTS, the French-speaking branch of SRG SSR. He will provide an insight into the intense months of defending public service broadcasting while also remaining flexible and reimagining its future.

Radio Committee election

The election for 2025-2027 of the EBU Radio Committee will take place during the assembly.
