Audiences are eager to become key stakeholders in media programmes. Public Service Media are in the best position to co-create important content with their audiences, leading to a positive impact on social cohesion and informed citizenship.

Using concrete examples, the Master Class will give you the tools and the inspiration to develop impactful user-driven projects, involving the right partners and combination of platforms, including live events.

Module 1: Social, user driven, public media projects (what and why?)

  • What is it? 
    • Projects that can have a positive impact in terms of social cohesion and informed citizenship
    • Key elements: partnerships, engagement by audience/citizens, cross-media productions, real life events
  •  Why?
    • To help the role that a PSM organization has on society in general, and the impact on the relationship between the audience and broadcaster
      • address concrete issues that matter to citizens
      • enhance dialogue and create communities
      • empower audiences, promote active citizen involvement and promote democracy

Module 2: The 7 steps of co-creating your project (How?)

  • Planning
    • Resources: finance, people, timing
    • Scale: small, medium, big
    • A one-off or not
    • The right partners
  • Open call: Events, open interactive platform, creating publicity to make people join
  • Community
  • Selection: define the entry point (real life events, social, TV, web) with content creators and the platforms

Clinic and case studies

  • Participants present their own case studies/projects, critiqued by each other
  • Trainer presents small and big projects relating to the projects presented by participants

  • Examples of big and small user driven cross platform projects to spark inspiration

Module 3: Make it happen - entry points, collaboration, participation & real life events

  • Defining the entry point
  • Find the right partners: how to capitalize from partnering up with externals to raise impact, reach and scale of your projects; collaboration rather than competition
  • Create valuable real life events
  • Empower users and strengthen connections with more vulnerable groups (define 3 levels of engagement)
  • Measuring impact
