The Ars Acustica Group is a forum for discussion, promotion and production devoted to radio art and sound art within the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
The Group serves as a node for the exchange of radio art productions, project proposals and the exchange of information about activities and events in media art in different countries. It stimulates and encourages discussion of current trends in theory and practice of radio art and connected fields, and the realization of coproductions between broadcasting corporations. It is strongly convinced of the necessity of an art form reflecting the development of radio and broadcasting in our society. The Art's Birthday Evening celebration by the Ars Acustica community takes place each year on 17 January, with the offer available in MUS. The Group awards the Prix Palma Ars Acustica (PAA) each year to a sound art work or works entered by EBU radio broadcasters.
2020 Palma Ars Acustica
At its online session on 29 May, the PAA Jury awarded the 2020 Prix Palma Ars Acustica ex aequo to Sao Sopheak’s work Phnom Pen FM: Re / Disc / Over, entered by Austrian Radio (ORF), and Veronika Svobodová’s work Ror-bu, submitted by Czech Radio (CR).
Sao Sopheak remarked: "I am very happy to be the recipient of this year's Palma Ars Acustica. As an artist and media producer, I am proud of my achievement. As a Cambodian woman, I hope that my work will make more foreigners aware of my home country and its struggle for peace and democracy throughout the last 40 years. I want us to remember those of my sisters who did not make it as far as I did. I thank Austrian and European listeners as well as the award committee for amplifying my voice to make it heard around the world."
