EBU welcomes new Director General of Serbian Member RTS

The EBU has congratulated Dragan Bujosevic on his appointment as the new Director General of its Serbian Member RTS.

He succeeds Nikola Mirkov who took over as acting DG following the death of Aleksandar Tijanic in October 2013.

Dragan Bujosevic has had a long career as both a print and broadcast journalist in Serbia.

He started his career as a journalist at the state-owned daily Politika in 1976 and left in 1989 to work for weekly publications NIN and Evropljanin.

In 2001, Mr Bujosevic joined the private TV station BK TV where he hosted the political TV show Nije srpski cutati. He returned to Politika in 2008 as editor-in-chief but left in 2013 and has hosted the political TV show Stav Srbije for the last three years.

Mr Bujosevic said his priorities now would be dealing with RTS’ financial difficulties and maintaining programmes.

In a letter to Mr Bujosevic EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre welcomed his appointment: “The EBU has a very good record of cooperation with RTS and we look forward to developing our relationship under your leadership.”

She added: “The EBU works closely with RTS as part of our Memorandum of Understanding with the European Union to work on strengthening public service media in EU accession countries. RTS plays very active and important role in this project (The Partnership Programme) which includes advocacy on a high political level, legal and strategic assistance, technical assistance and above all professional assistance, provided through training and exchange of programmes and experiences.”
