EBU joint IOI/NBI themed visit to CBC/Radio-Canada

A creative hub for Canadian-French language media and digital production, Radio-Canada will move into its new broadcast centre in 2020. The new Maison de Radio-Canada (MRC) has been designed to offer bright, modern and versatile spaces befitting a fully digital, multiplatform, creative public broadcaster, while meeting the strictest environmental and sustainable development standards. The MRC will be a showcase for public broadcasting.

According to Michel Bissonnette, Executive Vice-President of Radio-Canada,  "The new Maison de Radio-Canada will provide our employees – and creators of all disciplines – with an inspiring workplace where their talent can thrive and flourish.”

The 80-year-old public broadcaster has not waited to have a new building to drive innovation from within and to position itself as a key open innovation actor on the Canadian scene. The digital R&D Lab launched 5 years ago, the Idea Accelerator, the yearly Hackathon and RAD, a newly created service aimed at a younger and more digital generation, are just a few examples of the many initiatives that have put Radio-Canada at the forefront of digital transformation.

Participants in the visit will have a unique opportunity to better understand how the Canadian broadcaster works.

The themed visit combines plenary sessions with separate NBI and IOI track sessions.

  • 25 participants max., and no more than 2 participants per Member

Content highlights

Day I: 10:00 – 18:00

  • Strategic overview
  • CBC/Radio-Canada relation structure
  • Radio-Canada new building overview  and tour of the worksite, incl. Data centre, Master Control room
  • Innovation at Radio-Canada
  • IOI track: Innovation structure, processes and outcome
  • NBI track: project management, building architecture

Day II: 09:00 – 16:00 

  • Transition to Smarter production
  • IOI track: innovation examples and case studies, collaboration & partnerships
  • NBI track: new production infrastructure; behaviour & change management
  • Update on NBI/IOI project


We aim to plan something for Friday 24th morning, but this is to be confirmed and not obligatory. Please plan travel accordingly.

  • EUR 375 per person

The price covers prompt delivery of a report at the end of the visit, and professional moderation which will optimize the learning journey for participants.

Also included are coffee breaks and 2 light lunches. A networking dinner will be held on Wednesday evening at the participant’s charge.
