Why is the relationship between public service media and citizens so important? How can it be improved? Why are branding and programme presentation essential? How should relations with viewers and listeners be managed?
These and many other questions will be addressed during a two-day regional conference entitled "Public service media and the citizen" held in Podgorica, Montenegro, on 5-6 March.
The second large-scale event of the EU-sponsored action plan "Enabling the democratic role of Public Service Media in the EU accession countries", kindly hosted by the EBU Montenegrin member, RTCG, will focus on the importance of establishing solid and mutually supportive relationships between public service media, civil society and citizens.
Prominent speakers and experts will include the EBU Director General, Ingrid Deltenre, the head of the EU delegation in Montenegro and Hans Laroes, former Editor-in-Chief NOS News. Best public service media practices from the region will be presented by ORF, RTVSLO and HRT while representatives of the European Alliance of Listeners' and Viewers' Association will shed light on audiences' perceptions of public service broadcasters.
The conference's wrap-up session will discuss future national and regional activities to improve the relationship between public service media and citizens, including a roadmap, on-site activities and follow-up.
