Growing our Audio Platforms Workshop

EBU Members have been building sites and apps for many years. The smartphone was initially hailed as a new radio in everybody’s pocket. However, linear listening via web and mobile platforms has barely grown over the past decade while the rise of podcasting has predominately taken place on external platforms. Increasing listening scores on our own platforms is essential to ensure that our long-term future isn’t entirely in the hands of a few global giants. What can we do to take back control and create compelling reasons for consumers to listen via our properties? How can this help us build long-term relationships with digital native listeners? Do we believe that linear & live is still a relevant concept for younger listeners, or should we be doubling down on podcast content and shifting the focus of our digital products? Audio has a fundamentally different logic to video. Therefore, are we too often trying simply to replicate the OTT model in the radio business, or are there lessons we can learn from TV’s digital disruption?

This workshop and discussion aim to look at the content and product strategy behind our own audio platforms. The goal of the day is to bring together experts in their field and create the building blocks for a report that will assist the wider EBU membership.
