Petr Dvorak elected Director General of Czech Television


The Czech Television Council has elected Petr Dvorak as Director General of EBU Member broadcaster Czech Television for the next six-year term.

From 1 October 2011, Mr. Dvorak succeeded Jiri Janecek, who stepped down for health reasons in late August 2011 after eight years in the post.

Mr. Dvorak most recently served as Senior Vice-President of the Broadcasting Division of Central European Media Enterprises (CME), a broadcasting, content and new media company operating leading networks in six central and eastern European countries, including the Czech Republic. He was also Chief Executive Officer of CET 21, the operating company of TV NOVA channels in the Czech Republic, from 2003 to 2010.

In addition, he served on the boards of TV Nova, Markiza-Slovakia, Nova TV d.d., TV2 EOOD, Media Pro International SA and Pro TV SA, CME's operating companies in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania, respectively.

Between 2003 and 2009, Mr. Dvorak was CEO of TV NOVA, responsible for all its activities in the Czech Republic, including broadcast, production, and internet operations. He joined TV NOVA in 2002 after its acquisition by the largest Czech investment company PPF, prior to which he was an executive board member of PPF, responsible for media and banking acquisitions.

Petr Dvorak graduated in 1989 from the Czech Technical University in Prague and in 1999 he was awarded an MBA from the University of Chicago.
